New Education Specialist – Literacy

Danielle Kreassig, Ed.D

Education Specialist – Literacy

I’m thrilled to join Erin Saxon as the other half of our Literacy Duo for TTAC/ODU Regions 2 and 3!

I grew up and built my career in Virginia, earning my Ed.D. from The George Washington University, my Reading Specialist degree from Regent University, and both my undergraduate and graduate degrees in education from Old Dominion University. Over the past 20 years, I’ve had the privilege of serving as a teacher, literacy coach, instructional specialist, curriculum writer, and reading specialist, as well as teaching pre-service and graduate students. I’m genuinely excited to bring this experience to my work with schools across Regions 2 and 3, partnering with educators, families, and communities to strengthen literacy for all students.

Although I live at the oceanfront, one of the things I love most about Virginia is its incredible variety. My family and I enjoy everything from quiet beach mornings to weekend trips to the mountains, and it’s these connections to the place and people of Virginia that fuel my work. This state has shaped who I am—both personally and professionally—and I’m grateful for the opportunity to work with the communities that mean so much to me.

How My Work Supports the T-TAC/ODU Mission

Building Educator Capacity

  • My primary goal is to strengthen the knowledge, skills, and confidence of teachers, specialists, and school teams. Whether we’re planning instruction, reviewing data, or exploring evidence-based practices, I’m here to help build long-term capacity—not just provide short-term solutions.

Promoting Accessible Literacy for All Learners

  • Every student deserves meaningful and equitable access to reading and writing. I work with educators to create literacy environments and instructional approaches that are accessible and grounded in research.

Collaborating to Support Teams and Systems

  • Strong outcomes happen when teams plan, problem-solve, and grow together. I partner with general educators, special educators, coaches, administrators, related service providers, and families to create coordinated support that directly improves student learning.

Translating Evidence-Based Practices into Daily Instruction

  • Knowing the research is important—but knowing how to apply it in real classrooms is essential. I help teachers bridge that gap by modeling strategies, co-planning, reviewing student data, and supporting implementation with integrity and clarity.

Whether you have a quick question, need support throughout the year, are looking for a resource, or anything in between, please don’t hesitate to reach out!
