May Friday 5: Building Better Acknowledgement Systems

#2 Classroom Acknowledgements and Celebrations

Just as school-wide celebration and acknowledgement activities are meant to build a positive school culture of belonging for all, classroom celebrations and acknowledgements are another opportunity to build and strengthen a sense of team by creating a classroom community where each individual is appreciated and valued as a part of that team!  Setting classroom goals where everyone has the opportunity to work together toward the outcome can be a strategy for celebrating accomplishment and collective growth. Some classroom celebrations may not always be tied to goals, yet still serve to build community, recognize effort, and foster a positive, inclusive classroom environment. The purpose of classroom acknowledgements is to build enthusiasm and motivation for celebrating learning together! For more information, click this link to access a one-page tool to improve your next class celebration or way to acknowledge students in your class.
