What’s the October Catch? Check out this article, No Easy Button? No Problem: Four Decision Rules Every Team Should Know, which highlights how the end of the first quarter is a critical time to take a look at students who already have received office discipline referrals to determine whether there is a need for intervention. As noted in the article, research supports taking a closer look at students who have two or more discipline referrals by the end of October and the end of December to see if these students would benefit from additional assistance rather than allowing them to continue accumulating referrals without intervention. Many schools use the second discipline referral as a decision point to consider further support for students. By taking the time to proactively reflect, analyze, and respond, schools can use discipline data as an opportunity for timely support—and set students up for a more successful year ahead.
