Stay Engaged this Summer: Connect with Local Literacy Organizations!

Summer is the perfect time to recharge, reflect, and reengage with your professional community. One powerful way to grow your literacy knowledge and practice is by joining a local or statewide organization dedicated to evidence-aligned reading instruction. Whether you’re new to the field or a seasoned educator, these groups offer valuable resources, networking, and professional learning opportunities to support your work with students.

Start with the Virginia Joint Coalition for Learning Disabilities (VJCLDL). This collaborative network brings together statewide organizations committed to supporting educators, families, and students. VJCLDL offers free virtual events available year-round focused on reading research, high-leverage practices, and the science of reading—no membership required!

Explore these partner organizations and networks, many of which offer free or low-cost ways to engage. Consider connecting with one (or more!) of these impactful organizations.

🔹 Virginia Branch of the International Dyslexia Association (VBIDA)
The International Dyslexia Association offers a free starter trial membership which includes affiliation with the VBIDA branch, providing access to research-based resources and information focused on dyslexia and structured literacy.

🔹 The Reading League Virginia (TRL-VA)
Dedicated to advancing the science of reading, TRL Virginia is currently offering free membership. Join for updates, events, and curated resources to strengthen your literacy practice. You can even become a TRL-VA Regional Ambassador!

🔹 Decoding Dyslexia Virginia
This grassroots network empowers families and educators with free resources and advocacy tools—available when you subscribe to their mailing list. Explore supports for dyslexia awareness and access to evidence-based literacy instruction.

🔹 Virginia Council for Learning Disabilities (VCLD)
VCLD supports educators working with students with learning disabilities through providing professional development offerings and advocacy for policies. Membership is an additional $10 when you join the national Council for Learning Disabilities (CLD), giving you access to both state and national resources and opportunities for collaboration among professionals.

Here’s to a restful and rewarding summer of learning!
