VESOL Alliance Origin Story

One idea. A growing alliance. Statewide impact.

VESOL Alliance began with a simple idea: bring educators together to share expertise, strengthen instruction, and raise expectations for students with extensive support needs. What began at T-TAC ODU grew into a larger collaboration as educators and T-TAC teams across Virginia joined the Alliance.

In this interactive game, students catch fish labeled with whole numbers from 0 through 20. Each round, students compare two numbers they catch and decide which number is greater than, less than, or equal to the other. Students demonstrate their understanding by explaining their choice using math language (e.g., “12 is greater than 9”), pointing to number lines or visuals, or placing the fish under comparison symbols (> < =). Additional examples include standards from Middle and High School Mathematics.

Celebrating the Voice of Every Writer

All Write! is an annual writing contest that celebrates the creativity, growth, and achievements of students in Regions 2 and 3 who access the curriculum through the Virginia Essentialized Standards of Learning (VESOL). As part of T-TAC ODU’s Literacy Possible initiative, the contest showcases the belief that all students can become writers when provided with high-quality instruction, meaningful opportunities to communicate, and appropriate supports. Join us as we celebrate student voices and promote high expectations for every learner.
