The goal of Teacher Direct is both to provide new instructional resources and to help make teachers aware of professional development and grant opportunities, as well as other information of special interest to teachers and their students.
VDOE staff has created instructional resources and established Teacher Direct as a way to provide a more direct line of communication with classroom teachers and educators. As noted on the VDOE website, the goal of Teacher Direct is both to provide new instructional resources and to help make teachers aware of professional development and grant opportunities, as well as other information of special interest to teachers and their students. Visit Teacher Direct to see SOL News headlines, view a calendar of professional development SOL related events, and to visit the SOL library.
Literacy Workstations
For teachers in elementary grades who are working to establish differentiated literacy instruction, keep in mind the use of workstations that can engage all students at their individual learning level, while teachers work with small groups of students on specific reading skills. Visit the Phonological Awareness Literacy Screening (PALS) website to see a slide show on creating and managing literacy workstations. Literacy workstations can easily be set up using materials from whole group and guided instruction, and they will provide students with meaningful practice of skills they have been recently taught.
