It is that time of year– the application for the 2018 Youth and Parent Summit is live and can be found at the I’m Determined Project website. The Youth and Parent Summit invites 120 Virginia youth (ages 13-21) with disabilities to James Madison University each June for three days of fun. Participating youth will learn strategies for becoming more self-determined in their lives. Parents attend their own summit where they will have access to leaders from the Virginia Department of Education and other essential agencies.
MYTH: The Youth Summit is only for individuals with mild disabilities who are independent in their personal care.
FACT: Any Virginia youth with disability between the ages of 13 and 21 may apply to the Youth Summit. The I’m Determined team will work hard to make provide any needed accommodations for students who are accepted to the summit.
