The way we view the world, education, our classrooms, and the students and families we serve is often influenced by numerous factors including the beliefs, values, and assumptions we have developed through our experiences and environments. We may often be unaware of them, yet they are one of the primary drivers of our actions. During the month of May, we shared a five-article series that focused on mindset shifts, which have the power to transform the educational experience for students, teachers, staff, and families. Take a moment to read about how we can use our language to promote inclusive, supportive environments; how staff can shift their instructional approach to behavior in order to be more responsive; and how we might teach learners new or needed skills to navigate the educational environment, as well as their lifetime social experiences. Explore further to learn more about how we can broaden our view of acknowledgement to welcome and recognize both individuality and collective identity, as well as ways to ensure your team embraces the power of including different voices to create sustainable shifts in the culture of your school.
