Summer Math Professional Learning Opportunities

Amplify Desmos Math Free Courses

Amplify Desmos offers several free on-demand courses. Course titles include:

  • Course 1: Math Storytelling: The Wisdom and Wholeness We Are Gifted
  • Course 2: Addressing Math Anxiety in the K–5 Classroom for Both Teachers and Parents
  • Course 3: Fostering Equitable Interactions and Belonging With the Five Practices
  • Course 4: From Surviving to Thriving: Making a Case for Taking on Leadership Roles as a Teacher

Certificates are provided upon completion.

Hand 2 Mind On-Demand Webinars

Hand 2 Mind offers dozens of free webinars focused on teaching mathematics. Some of the webinars available are:

  • Multiplication and Division Fluency: Building Automat Mathematicians, Not Memorizers
  • Drop the Key Words: Developing Problem-Solving Skills Through Sense-Making Routines

NCTM Professional Development Webinars

NCTM has a repository of past and future webinars for teachers to view. The repository includes slide decks and resources for past webinars. Registration is now open for the following webinar that will take place on July 10, 2024: Classroom Conversations: Building a Foundation for Success with Fractions.

TCTM Micro-Credentials

The Tidewater Council of Teachers of Mathematics (TCTM) now offers several courses, of which teachers will receive a micro-credential upon completion. The topics include:

  • Engaging Families in Mathematics
  • Using the Concrete-Representational Abstract Approach in Grades 3-5
  • Using the C-R-A Model in High School Mathematics
  • Specially Designing Mathematics Instruction for Struggling Learners

The micro-credential courses are free to TCTM members, and annual membership is $16.00.

YouCubed Online Courses

YouCubed offers several courses for teachers, including:

  • 21st Century Teaching and Learning: Data Science
  • Mathematical Mindsets
  • How to Learn Math for Teachers

The cost for each course is $149, with continuing education credits being earned upon successful completion.
